Comfort Dog Ministry
Our beloved Adeena passed away earlier this year. We will miss her dearly. If you still feel compelled to donate, we are still accepting donations that go straight to Comfort Dog Ministry.
Adeena is a trained LCC K-9 Comfort Dog who was placed at our church in December 2010.
The mission of a Comfort Dog is to interact with people at churches, schools, nursing homes, hospitals, events and in disaster response situations. Adeena is a friend who brings a calming influence, allowing people to open up their hearts and receive help for what is affecting them. She is a pure bred Golden Retriever who received extensive training, including six months at Dwight Correction Center as the very first Comfort Dog to be trained at that facility. She has become a regular part of services and events at St. John as well as having made her presence known in the surrounding communities.
When called, Adeena has traveled many miles to comfort in the aftermath of disasters including Joplin, MO after the devastating tornado, Sandy Hook, CT after their tragedy and Washington, IL in the wake of the tornado. Still the largest part of the Comfort Dog ministry with Adeena happens in the small moments in everyday life. Her comforting can happen in a store, on a walk or while going to the groomers. Any where she meets someone who needs the comfort that comes unconditionally from a LCC K-9 Comfort Dog, her work can be done.
Adeena is available to visit your church or group, for more information: [email protected]
